Open CutPlan

Plan straight stock cuts with kerf and finite quantities

Allocate pieces to the stock you have. See kerf, end trim, remaining lengths and anything that does not fit, before you reach for the saw.

  1. Use one material per job and one consistent unit: millimetres or decimal inches. Enter actual stock lengths and available quantities.
  2. Enter the blade kerf and trim allowance per end. Quantities must be whole numbers; lengths support up to three decimal places.
  3. Build the heuristic plan. Unplaced pieces remain visible and make the plan incomplete. Unused stock is listed separately.
  4. Review the labelled cut list and dimensions. Each separating cut consumes kerf; an exact final piece consumes no extra end kerf. Confirm the plan at the bench.

8 pieces placed on 3 bars

The supplied millimetre example places all eight pieces. Used stock totals 6,000 mm: 4,920 mm of parts, 24 mm kerf, 30 mm end trim and 1,026 mm remaining. One 2,400 mm bar stays unused. These figures reconcile material; they do not prove a globally optimal cutting plan.

Does this find the best possible cut plan?

No. It uses a deterministic best-fit-decreasing heuristic with finite quantities. Inspect unplaced demand, kerf and end trim; it does not do two-dimensional nesting or machine control.

Scope, compatibility and privacy

Straight one-dimensional cuts only. No mixed-material job, 2D nesting, angles, CNC integration or guaranteed global optimum. Three-decimal input precision; integer internal arithmetic. Diagrams are schematic, not cutting templates. Verify dimensions and shop practices before cutting.

Data stays in this tab; it is not sent to a server. Saved JSON/CSV/PDF files contain your input. The tool does not auto-save. Export a job in the full edition before refreshing. Job files are versioned and validated on opening; incompatible tools/files are rejected.

CSV: UTF-8 with one header row; commas/newlines in a value must be quoted. Column names are case-sensitive and must match the example. Whole-number quantity fields; other numbers permit at most three decimal places. Formula-like text is prefixed with an apostrophe in exported CSV to reduce spreadsheet formula execution.

PDF text supports the standard font encoding (many Latin-script characters, not all Unicode). Unsupported characters are blocked; use printable HTML for browser fonts. Generated PDFs have not been physically printed. Self-contained architecture does not establish tested double-click behaviour on every device. Current desktop Chrome/Edge recommended; internet-hosted browser checks and native offline checks are separate.
